The first time we saw a skull by James Son Thomas we knew we had to meet the maker.
From collecting fraternal art we had a number of skulls of various types, but nothing like the ones of Mississippi mud made by James Son Thomas.
Full of excitement, we would drive a full day from Waxahachie and stay in the biggest dump of a hotel with one sheet of plywood for walls in Greenville then on to Leland the next morning.
We had been collecting records for years and following many of his contemporaries in Blues music; but it was magical sitting with him, talking blues music, hearing him play music and talking about his art, graveyards, and Mississippi.
My favorite was how he would make himself chuckle as he put the finishing touches on pieces.
We treasure our friendship with him. He was such a talented artist who took pride in all of his accomplishments and was a wealth of soul.
All of Son’s artwork on his page are select pieces from our collection and purchased directly from Son. Contact us for info.
