We met Carl Dixon during the time when we were serving on the board for the UT Austin exhibit Spirited Journeys - Self Taught Texas Artists of the Twentieth Century. Carl was living and Houston and we had seen images of his work. We loved his relief carving and glossy bright painting. He mainly does portraits and has a fondness for Martin Luther King, which is Webb Gallery's most admired figures. We visited Carl many times in Houston and then a number of years back he headed back to his homeland of Jackson, Mississippi. Carl is still actively working and turning out some great pieces.
